Wilton House, Mompesson House, Old Sarum and the nearby New Forest broaden the appeal to both domestic and international tourists in what is arguably the country’s leading example of a British medieval city.

Heritage
A Salisbury institution
Located on Milford Street within the historic Cross Keys Chequer of Salisbury, the Cathedral Hotel is a Grade II listed building originally constructed in 1594.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the building was expanded and remodelled, giving it much of the architectural character seen today, including its red-brick façade and decorative features.
In the late 1920s, the building underwent a major renovation, preserving its historical essence while introducing an entire third floor, the reconstruction of the east side of the hotel and a substantial rebuild of the rear.
Recognising its historic and architectural significance, the building was Grade II listed in 1972 and operated as a very economy grade bar, restaurant and hotel until closing in July 2022.
Today, its close proximity to both the Market Square and Salisbury Cathedral makes it a prominent but under-used part of the city’s inner fabric.

The ground floor of the hotel is its spiritual hub, from a de-constructed reception and lobby area to speakeasy-style jazz bar and inside/outside fine dining restaurant and patio.

- An adjacent private dining area offers seating to 10 diners.
- An attractive outside dining and bar area has seasonal capacity for 30 people, as well as offering ample space for private events.

Spitfire Rooftop Bar
A very secret history
During WWII, after the main Supermarine factory in Southampton was bombed, production of over 2,000 Spitfires, about 10% of total production, was moved to Salisbury.
Hundreds of local civilians, including many young girls, women and boys, built the aircraft in hidden, decentralised locations like garages and bus depots across the city.
In an ode to the city’s very personal relationship with this aircraft, the Spitfire Rooftop Bar is the centrepiece of the Cathedral Hotel.
The first and only venue of its type in the city, the Spitfire Bar will offer both indoor and outdoor seating with a glazed glass pavilion allowing views from Old Sarum to Salisbury Cathedral.

The third floor will include four suites in varying sizes and configurations, including the 72 sqm family suite which boasts a separate living area, a private lobby and both free-standing bath and walk-in shower.
